1937 Packard Model 1507 Project Car

Price:
$31,000
Summary:
Used 1937 Black
Location:
Savannah, GA
Description:

The 1507 12-Cylinder Rumble Seat Coupe is one of the most rare of all Packard's and for the first time in decades, a preservation example has been found.Sold new by the Packard Motor Company of New York City, it is believed that this 1937 Packard Twelve 1507 2/4 Passenger Coupe spent most of its life in New York City and the surrounding suburbs. While early ownership history is not known, it had been in the same owner's possession from 1966 until 2023 when the current owner acquired it after a nearly two-year search for the rumored automobile. While with the previous owner, this Packard spent most of those 57 years tucked away in his garage in the suburbs of New York only started on occasion and scarcely driven.According to Packard historians and experts, 42 Model 1507's were built in the three window rumbleseat configuration and prior to this one, only seven had been found. This example, car number 30 was delivered new in by Packard Motor Company on 11thAvenue in New York City on February 8th, 1938, the late delivery no doubt a product of the ongoing Great Depression. It is of course, numbers matching. The car has spent its entire life garaged and shows as such with no rust or any sign of accident repair anywhere. The engine was carefully serviced and brought back to life between late January & April and now runs nearly silently whenever asked. The car drives and shifts throughall its gears but will require additional mechanical reconditioning prior to be driven any distances.I have many more pictures and a driving video for anyone interested. This car is the most original anywhere. Original paint, glass, engine, transmission, frame, seat material, leather, door panels, everything is original as it was built in the Packard factory in 1937.Overall this Model 1507 is a very well-preserved and highly original ready to be shown at the highest levels of preservation with only minor prep work required. This is widely believed by Packard historians to be 1 of only 42 Packard Twelve Model 1507 2/4 Passenger Coupes built in 1937 and one of eight remaining today. Cosmetically, the sheet metal and undercarriage are solid and original; the original paint, running boards, and interior are well-preserved, and the rumble seat even retains its original leather. The twelve-cylinder engine fires up and runs well, but other mechanicalswill require attention prior to being safely driven and shown. As one of only a few Packard Twelve Model 1507 2/4 Passenger Coupes known from 1937, it is an excellent opportunity for someone looking for an unrestored and rare twelve-cylinder Packard that will allow them to partake in CCCA events and other prestigious shows around the country.Questions:Why am I selling. I own one of the other eight and it is restored. I am showing that car this year after some interior work is completed.Do I have a clean title? Yes! It is exciting because I have an original title from the mid 1960's signed off and ready to transfer. Can I come see it? Yes, please feel free to reach out to me at 860-883-XXXX.What will it need to be driven reliably and shown at preservation events? I would replace the vinyl piece on thetop of the car, the old one is very dry. The brakes will need service and then some general sorting. Fuel and fluids have already been done. and the car runs silently and beautifully. How much to restore it? It depends, we don't restorecars but this car is an excellent starting point should the new owner decide to not keep it as preservation. Its original sheet metal is excellent and rust free and the underside is also very original and with absolutelyno sign of rust or rust repair anywhere. One note: The rumble seat lidcloses fine. The photographer did not know where the release was and was afraid to close it entirely for fear of not knowing how to reopen it. There is absolutely NO problem with the fit and function of therumbleseat lid.
