Description:

1966 Chrysler 300 4 Door Hardtop The first thing to remember, talking about the Chrysler company, isits founder - an extraordinary man, whose name was Walter PercyChrysler. Born in 1875, Walter had a fascinating career, he workedhis way up through positions such as a supervisor, asuperintendent, a division master mechanic and a general mastermechanic. Following the example of Henry Ford, many Americanbusinessmen started their own automobile manufacturing companies. In the 20th century, many small automakers were created just to beabsorbed by bigger companies. Similarly, Chrysler was founded byWalter Chrysler on June 6, 1925, when the Maxwell Motor Company,(est. 1904), was reorganized into the Chrysler Corporation. For consignment, we give you large and in charge, from the era ofbig Detroit iron where status was measured by the inch, thisbeautiful example of the 1966 Chrysler 300. Coming to our HallowedHalls in very original survivor condition wearing its consignorstated original and presentable paint, the correct 305hpdrivetrain, and its special order New Yorker trunk trim. Take ahard look at this larger than life cruiser, they don't come upoften in this condition. ExteriorPlenty of Ivory paint covers the straight and true steel slabs thathave been formed to create this stylish example of the 300. Thegaps are well minded, and paint, being the consignor statedoriginal, has not lost its luster, but does show some wear as wellas touched up chip offs and dings. Chrome and badging are alloriginal and all looking good. With its loooooong hood, and 4 doorpassenger compartment, (more like an apartment), and loooooongtrunk, I'm getting ready to move in! Speaking of the trunk, it issporting the consignor stated special order New Yorker trunk trim, factory jack, felted black liner and black felt covered full sizespare tire. A long flat roof presents with block angled B pillars, which was the Mopar style at the time for sedans, and looks justfab as is the plentiful chrome trim around all the windows, trimspear just above the rockers, and all encompassing beltline spear.Within those wheel wells are fantastically preserved tri color andpolished 14-inch Chrysler wheel covers with spinner equippedturbine centers and 300 badging wrapped in like new thinwhitewall225/75R14's. Overall, a very nice exteriorpresentation. InteriorA swing of the massive but well-balanced doors and we are greetedwith pristine panels that have a mixture of dark blue vinyl, red, white and blue 300 badges in an aluminum field, and some bluecarpeting on the lowers. Slipping inside we see a large 70/30 splitbench up front with some light blue tuck and roll inserts andsmooth vinyl all in a lustrous dark blue. A central armrest can befolded up to provide an extra seat in the front, or to make roomfor your best girl to snuggle up with you. In the back we see amatching full bench with a mesh grille center speaker high up inthe center. A slight tear is noted on the driver's front outerbolster but otherwise the seats front and rear are all good. A longsteel dash with dark blue padded top present with an eyebrow bumpup for the rounded instrument cluster and more vertical ribbedchrome have all the original and functioning controls. The heaterslides along with the factory AM radio are present and accountedfor in the middle of the dash and our consignor notes that a hiddenBluetooth stereo is onboard to satisfy your musical tastes. A trioof white face gauges hangs below the dash within a chrome bezel anddark blue carpet is installed and in good condition as is the darkblue headliner above which is nice and tight. DrivetrainA V8 of 383 cubes with hardened valve seats pumps out 305hp and isfed by a single 2-barrel carburetor, sits in a clean but originalengine bay. Transmission is a correct A727 Torqueflite 3-speedautomatic which sends power back to an 8 3/4" SureGrip rear axle. All looking good in the engine cosmetic department, which screamsperiod correct and has the original radiator rebuilt and recored toa 3 row unit for superior cooling power. UndercarriageNice straight steel with some surface rusting, good Ivory floorpans, wheel wells, and all clear on the mechanical front are seenunderneath. Independent torsion bar upfront, and leaf springs inthe rear make up the suspension, and power drum brakes with a newdual reservoir master cylinder, fresh shoes, hardware, soft linesand wheel cylinders are all around. A newer stock style dualexhaust system is now on to handle the exhale from the big V8 upfront. Drive-AbilityThis example started right up and drove nicely as expected with alarge car as such. Handling is cushy, and because of its size itwill not turn on a dime, but cruises wonderfully, providing a verysmooth ride. All functions were working as they should and my crackdecoder spent some extra time taking in all the chrome buttons andknobs, which function as they should. Mostly original, well kept, an exterior in fine shape, get in, turnthe key and feel those 305 horses take you down the road. What morecould you ask for?
