Location:
Macedonia, OH
Description:

Awesome color combination on a desirable Coronet 500 hardtop.Recently built 390 cubic inch stroker motor (318-based) withestimated 450 horsepower. Gorgeous interior with console. Verysolid car. A bit of a sleeper with a stunning look to go withit! The first thing that everyone notices about this beautiful 1967Dodge Charger 500 hardtop is the color?Medium Copper Metallic. Andcode TT1 is indeed this car's original color, making it somewhatunusual among all its black and red siblings. The second thing theynotice is just how straight the bodywork is, suggesting that theynot only started with a good car, but that someone spent the timeto get it right before spraying any of that gorgeous copper paint. The angular Coronet bodywork remains one of Chrysler's best designsof the 1960s, particularly that cantilevered roofline, making thecar sporty but grown-up. The doors swing closed with acharacteristic kerCHUNK and panel fit is quite good all around. This is an original V8 car (actually, it was a 318 car from new) sothe 'V8' emblems on the flanks are honest and the chrome andstainless trim is nicely finished with a bright shine. Even thesuper-fine grille and tail panel look great without the usual heavypitting. No modifications, no stripes, no add-ons, just a cleanMopar with a serious dose of firepower under the hood. The copperbucket seat interior has to be the highlight of the car?it'sabsolutely beautifully done. Anchored by brown carpets, it's atestament to 1960s style at its peak. The center console is a nicefeature, adding a bit of muscle car attitude to the low-keyCoronet, along with Chrysler's handsome shifter for the 3-speedautomatic transmission underneath. The factory steering wheel isbig and skinny, but power steering makes it effortless to wheelaround, and it frames a full set of factory instruments augmentedwith a tachometer cleverly tucked in where the clock used to live. There is no radio, sadly, but that means you can install theentertainment system of your choice, although if it was ours, we'djust find a factory block-off plate and call it done. That engineis plenty entertaining all by itself. A dark headliner keeps theinterior from being copper overload and it fits quite well with norips or sagging. And like most Chryslers of the period, the trunkis positively massive and features a correct plaid mat with thespare tire tucked underneath. This car came from the factory with a318 cubic inch V8, so it seems fitting that there's still a versionof a 318 living under the hood today. Bored and stroked to 390cubic inches, it features an Eagle forged rotating assembly, Icon.030 oversize flat-top pistons, a Mopar Performance 'Purple'camshaft, Howards lifters, and a set of Edelbrock aluminum heads ontop. Intake duties are performed by an aluminum Edelbrock Air Gapintake and Holley 4-barrel carburetor with an electronic ignitionsystem to light the fires. Long-tube headers feed a freshFlowmaster dual exhaust system which sounds spectacular. TheTorqueFlite 3-speed automatic was rebuilt using a shift kit and ahigh stall torque converter to help get it off the line a littlebetter, and there are now 3.55 gears on a limited slip in the8.75-inch rear end. The underside has not been restored, but youwill note that there's not rot or structural issues anywhere, making this an incredibly solid car. Front disc brakes were addedin the name of safety, and the front suspension was rebuilt so ittracks straight and steers right. New shocks all around preservethat awesome torsion bar ride quality and a fresh gas tank out backensures no fuel problems when you need it most. 15-inch Magnum 500wheels are a great choice and carry staggered 225/70/15 front and235/70/15 rear radials.Documentation includes a factory assemblymanual and a wiring diagram. This is a really pretty car thatattracts a ton of attention in our showroom. But under the skin,it's a take-no-prisoners machine that wants to prowl the streetslooking for a fight. If that kind of split personality appeals toyou, then take a closer look. There's a lot of money invested inthis car and with a few tweaks it could easily be taken to the nextlevel.
