Summary:
Used 1967 Porsche 911 S
Location:
Fallbrook, CA
Description:

Imagine: the house is quiet, the birds have a particularlywelcoming song, and the aromas of fresh coffee grounds brewing andwarming idle exhaust fumes are swirling together to set the stagefor the ultimate Saturday morning. Maybe you are headed to a Cars &Coffee, about to tack on another long and twisty cruise, or justgoing to browse the hardware store to plan out that project you'vebeen meaning to get to. Whatever the reason, you know this is thecar you want to do it in. As that garage cracks open, the lightcascades and begins to reveal this Polo Red 1967 911S. Littledetails like the lower fog lights and the roll bar begin to emergeand bring a smirk of excitement for what's to come. CPR Classic is thrilled to offer this wonderful 1967 Porsche 911Sfinished in Polo Red over a Black interior that comes with aninteresting race history. First sold in California and nicelyoptioned with Webasto heater, tinted glass, loudspeaker, antenna,Dunlop tires, and a black leatherette interior, the beginning ofthe story for this 67 911S may have the same beginning as mostothers, but its racing history is where it gets a whole lot morefun, and the next chapter is up to you. As the car was approaching its mid-20s, the prospect of pursuing ajourney of vintage rally events was becoming evident as noted byits successful career in Colorado and California, but the realprize came during the La Carrera Panamericana in Mexico. The ownerat that time had finally found this car in Northern California, andin his mind, it was the perfect car to bring to his shop in Texasfor prep to tackle the 1,900-mile cross-country trek traversing upthe spine of Mexico across deserts and mountains that is the LaCarrera Panamericana. It was during this time that the car underwent extensive racepreparations and a mild restoration including a complete enginerebuild by Steve Henry of Eagle Racing in Dripping Springs, Texas. The La Carrera Panamericana is a grueling 7-day race and everythingneeds to work perfectly. The entire car was thoroughly inspectedand all mechanical systems were rebuilt including the original 901transmission. During the restoration, the car was repainted in itsoriginal factory color, Polo Red, and affectionately named the car"Conejo Rojo - Red Rabbit". Final preparations included fittingPorsche race seats, a roll cage, and proper timing equipment forrally checkpoints. It was now 2003 and the car was shipped to Mexico where it wasentered into the La Carrera Panamericana. There it won 5 of 7stages, placed first in class, and 9th overall out of 76 cars. The67 911S went on to race its' celebratory final rallies in theAmerican vintage circuit. Following its' victorious racing career, it received a second mildrestoration at Kundensport in California. The matching numberstransmission was rebuilt in 2018. Though the original matchingnumbers engine was taken out years ago, the current 2.0-literengine (the same one that won the La Carrera Panamericana) is thecorrect spec 911 engine built to S specs. All brightwork has beenre-chromed, the original glass only shows a few minor scratches, and the windshield has been replaced with Sigla glass. Theone-year-only 5.5" Fuchs were refinished as well and are wrapped inPirelli Cinturato tires. The most recent owner elected to add a front-mounted oil coolerwith thru body oil lines and also sourced rare period-correctPorsche racing bucket seats. The car had one more round of fame byhaving been featured on the television series Gas MonkeyGarage. Now imagine again, as you find yourself standing in the garage withthe now empty cup of coffee and warm engine calling you closer, youenter the race-inspired interior with a radio delete and rear seatdelete; fit securely in the bucket seats you only have one decisionto make: which racing memory will you let this car channel into youthat morning.
