Summary:
Used 1970 Buick Skylark
Location:
Macedonia, OH
Description:

Clean, solid Skylark with lots of recent work. Great-running 350,nicely preserved original interior, recent paint. New tires, gastank, radiator, and much more. Drives very well with no issues.Really nice A-body at a great price! For some reason, the Buick(and Oldsmobile) versions of the GM A-body just don't get the samerespect as the Chevelles and GTOs. On the one hand, that's kind ofa shame, but on the other, it means you can get a great Buick withthe great A-body DNA for a fraction of the price. And we have toadmit, the Buicks just seem to drive better?they're somehow moresolid-feeling than their corporate cousins. Either way, this prettyred 1970 Buick Skylark represents a lot of fun for the money. Italso has a lot of recent work, not the least of which is a fullpaint job completed in spring 2022 (with photos) that looks great. It's not a show car, but it has won a few awards at local shows, and that's where this car works best: get in, turn the key, and gohave fun with your friends. The car was originally code 63, DesertGold, so the respray gave it a whole new outlook in code 75 FireRed?it's correct for 1970. We have to admit it's a big improvement, and the sheetmetal underneath appears to have been in good orderbefore they started shooting color. Experts will note the 1972Skylark grille and headlights, but since things didn't change verymuch from year to year, it's a nearly invisible change. The rest isstock and we like the clean, unadorned flanks of the Skylark thatshow off the handsome shape to good effect. There's also nicechrome on the bumpers, new weather seals, and correct anodizedrocker trim to add some contrast. The code 124 Sandalwood interiorappears to be largely original and in very good condition. Thebench seat makes plenty of room inside and the basic Skylarkgoodness means it's comfortable for everyone. This car isn't loadedup with features, but the basics are quite good: the dash pad isn'tcracked by the sun, the carpets are new, there are auxiliary gaugesunder the dash, and the RetroSound radio was recently installed soit's ready to cruise. There aren't a lot of options, but the cardoes have the interesting GM rear defroster unit in the trunk, which is little more than a fan that blows interior air on the rearwindow. The original headliner is in good condition with only somelight discoloration around the rear window (more visible in ourphotos than in real life) and all the seat belts are still flexibleand supple. There's also a large trunk with a correct mat andfull-sized spare with jack assembly. Buick's 350 cubic inch V8shares nothing with its corporate siblings of similar size, andthat's why it has its own unique personality. It's smooth andtorquey, more luxury than muscle, and maybe that's an explanationfor why the Buicks just feel different. This one runs great and hasa lot of recent work, including a rebuilt carburetor, new fuelpump, fresh alternator, and a full tune-up with plugs, cap, rotor, and wires. Up front there's a new aluminum radiator, and it'sdressed in correct Dante Red engine enamel with some chrome dressup to make it look its best. It starts easily and idles nicely, andout on the road it has a generous torque curve that makes it feelenergetic without being high-strung. Small block Buicks were backedby the reliable TH350 3-speed automatic transmission, and with 2.73gears out back, this is an easy highway cruiser that's ready for aroad trip. You'll note fresh tubular A-arms up front, along withnew springs and shocks, along with details like bushings, endlinks, and a new pitman arm. The Flowmaster dual exhaust system hasan appropriately mellow tone that's just right for the sportySkylark and might even add a few horsepower, too. Floors androckers are in good order. Other new equipment includes rear shocksand springs and a new gas tank out back, so it's ready to run.Buick Road Wheels are always a great choice on cars of the period, and these are wearing four recent 225/60/14 BFGoodrich T/A radials.Extras include the original owner's manual, some advertisingbrochures, original air cleaner assembly and AM radio, a new waterpump, and some restoration photos. We think this is a lot of carfor the money. It's handsome, clean, solid, and fun to drive, andstill costs thousands less than a comparable Chevelle. All therecent work adds up to a significant portion of the asking price,so all that's left for you to do is get in and start having fun.Call today!
