It isn't every day that you see a 1971 Dodge Challengerconvertible. With only 2,000 produced, they are both rare andhighly desirable. They're also easy to recognize: you can see aChallenger from a mile away with its long, sculpted hood and widestance. Powered by a 318 cubic inch engine, the Challenger createsenough power and makes enough noise to be a fantastic cruiser. Andits 3-speed manual transmission shifts smoothly so you glide downthe road. This thrilling '71 Challenger convertible is totallyoriginal (except for engine work) and has been in the same familysince new. Pampered and protected all that time, it has traversedonly 43,224 miles over 50 years. As you'd expect, it has never beenexposed to any winter weather; the laser-straight body andundercarriage are rust free (check out the pics in the photogallery). The interior and bucket seats are completely originalwith not a trace of wear anywhere. The gauges are all clear andwork well. The AM radio is original but is not working at thistime. The power top is also original and works well. The owneradded a new set of radial tires in 2020, and they've only covered1,400 miles since. In 2002 the owner spent over $10,000 on theengine, something that is rarely done. With only 42,000 miles theengine did not need internal work, but the engine was removed andpainted. Some of the work done: new gaskets, freeze plugs, rebuiltwater and fuel pumps, transmission and new engine mounts, plugs,fuel lines, clutch assembly kit and all hoses. The flywheel wasmachined, a new clutch was installed and the engine and radiatorwere flushed (Invoices available for review). A copy of theoriginal build sheet is also included with the car and is evidenceof its originality. There are also copies of the only two titles:one from when the car was new, and the other from when it wastransferred to the original owner's son-in-law in 1997. Thisclassic is as original as it gets. In addition to giving the newowner many miles of driving excitement, we're sure it will bewelcome at any concours as a preservation class entry.
