The Basil family has implemented a tradition of excellence in finenew, pre-owned and classic automobiles since 1951.This 1974 Javelin AMX represents the final year of American Motorsmuscle cars which were produced over a seven year period. AmericanMotors expanded beyond the family car market in the1968 model yearafter realizing the younger purchasers entering the new car marketwanted vehicles that provided personality and performance. In 1968,to satisfy those interests the Javelin and AMX, were debuted byAMC. Both cars offered various performance options, paint schemesand trim. The AMX was a two seater Sport car, the Javelin had awheel base stretched 14 inches longer to accommodate fivepassengers. Both the AMX and the Javelin were successful in gainingthe younger purchasing market which resulted in the release of anadditional performance platform based on the American sedan Modelin 1969 and was called the SC/Rambler. Ment to mean super carRambler, it was almost immediately referred to as the RamblerScrambler. The Scrambler was available in two different red, whiteand blue paint schemes and equipped with 390ci engines and a fourspeed transmission. Only 1512 of these mini monsters were sold butin 1970, American Motors upped their game and released the RebelMachine also available in a red, white and blue paint scheme. TheMachine could be ordered with an automatic transmission, had aboost in horsepower and available in single body colors. Althoughthe Machine was a larger and heavier car, it could comfortably seatfive passengers and with the horsepower boost, it was still aperformer to be reckoned with.American Motors final performance entry prior to their demise wasthe 1971-1974 Javelin and Javelin AMX. This model was a timelessdesigned five passenger pony car which offered a wide array ofengine options ranging from a 232ci six cylinder base engine in theJavelin to a stout 401ci engine topping off the line in the JavelinAMX.This 1974 Javelin AMX is one of only 4,980 produced in the AmericanMotors final run of vehicles in the US, making it a very rare andcollectable automobile.Its stand-alone body style is like no other with its eye catchingfender flares to its extended nose appointment sporting a slenderchrome front bumper, a mesh style grill exclusive to the AMX andit's black "T" striped raised cowl hood. Adding to the sleek designof this AMX are the body colored spoilers, one placed across thelower front beneath the bumper and the second is placed high acrossthe upper trunk lid area. The styled steel wheels with trim ringsand chrome center caps nicely accented by the stainless wheelopening moldings and white letter radial tires crave attention fromany onlooker.The large rear deck window, rounded corner oversized taillightassemblies and chrome bumper with black bumperettes make thisJavelin AMX just as appealing moving away from you as it is uponapproach. The factory pewter mist silver paint scheme with flushmounted door entry handles and endlessly fluid body lines furtheraccentuate this timeless beauty.Under the hood, we find a 390ci V8 engine nicely appointed withchrome valve covers and air cleaner. Additionally equipped with airconditioning and power steering, the V8 power is sent through athree speed automatic transmission and gases are expelled through afull length dual exhaust system.Upon entry to the driver's seat, you are visually treated to anaircraft style wraparound dashboard which blends into an automaticshift and center console tucked between spacious black bucketseats. While looking forward, you find a sport style steering wheelmounted to a tilt steering column. The bold faced factory gaugesand AM/FM radio are appointed in neatly styled machined aluminumwith toggle switched lights and wipers mounted just beneath.Additionally, an aftermarket tach and engine gauge package havebeen installed.
