The Basil family has implemented a tradition of excellence in finenew, pre-owned and classic automobiles since 1951. This 1974Javelin AMX represents the final year of American Motors musclecars which were produced over a seven year period. American Motorsexpanded beyond the family car market in the 1968 model year afterrealizing the younger purchasers entering the new car market wantedvehicles that provided personality and performance. In 1968, tosatisfy those interests the Javelin and AMX, were debuted by AMC.Both cars offered various performance options, paint schemes andtrim. The AMX was a two seater Sport car, the Javelin had a wheelbase stretched 14 inches longer to accommodate five passengers.Both the AMX and the Javelin were successful in gaining the youngerpurchasing market which resulted in the release of an additionalperformance platform based on the American sedan Model in 1969 andwas called the SC/Rambler. Ment to mean super car Rambler, it wasalmost immediately referred to as the Rambler Scrambler. TheScrambler was available in two different red, white and blue paintschemes and equipped with 390ci engines and a four speedtransmission. Only 1512 of these mini monsters were sold but in1970, American Motors upped their game and released the RebelMachine also available in a red, white and blue paint scheme. TheMachine could be ordered with an automatic transmission, had aboost in horsepower and available in single body colors. Althoughthe Machine was a larger and heavier car, it could comfortably seatfive passengers and with the horsepower boost, it was still aperformer to be reckoned with. American Motors final performanceentry prior to their demise was the 1971-1974 Javelin and JavelinAMX. This model was a timeless designed five passenger pony carwhich offered a wide array of engine options ranging from a 232cisix cylinder base engine in the Javelin to a stout 401ci enginetopping off the line in the Javelin AMX. This 1974 Javelin AMX isone of only 4,980 produced in the American Motors final run ofvehicles in the US, making it a very rare and collectableautomobile. Its stand-alone body style is like no other with itseye catching fender flares to its extended nose appointmentsporting a slender chrome front bumper, a mesh style grillexclusive to the AMX and it's black "T" striped raised cowl hood.Adding to the sleek design of this AMX are the body coloredspoilers, one placed across the lower front beneath the bumper andthe second is placed high across the upper trunk lid area. Thestyled steel wheels with trim rings and chrome center caps nicelyaccented by the stainless wheel opening moldings and white letterradial tires crave attention from any onlooker. The large rear deckwindow, rounded corner oversized taillight assemblies and chromebumper with black bumperettes make this Javelin AMX just asappealing moving away from you as it is upon approach. The blackpaint scheme with flush mounted door entry handles and endlesslyfluid body lines further accentuate this timeless beauty. Under thehood, we find a 360ci V8 engine. Additionally equipped with airconditioning and power steering, the V8 power is sent through athree speed automatic transmission and gases are expelled through afull length dual exhaust system. Upon entry to the driver's seat,you are visually treated to an aircraft style wraparound dashboardwhich blends into an automatic shift and center console tuckedbetween spacious white bucket seats. The bold faced factory gaugesand AM/FM radio are appointed in neatly styled machined aluminumwith toggle switched lights and wipers mounted just beneath.Additionally, an aftermarket tach and engine gauge package havebeen installed. Once you see this excellent example of an originalfinal year Javelin AMX, you'll want to be the one to take it home.Come on in and see for yourself. This vehicle is in nice originalcondition, although not a perfect show car, it is a great exampleof one of these javelins in its original condition! The interior isin excellent shape especially considering the age, and makes for acomfortable ride. The body is super straight and solid with olderpaint, a white T- stripe, and a gold pin stripe, which is a verysharp combo on this car! Where this car really shines is when youstart it up and take it down the road! It runs like a dream, goingdown the road smoothly with tight steering and suspension thattakes the bumps like new, brakes that work as they should, andoverall, a nice quiet ride! You can tell this vehicle has been welltaken care of throughout its life to be as mechanically sound andcould easily be brought to the next level with some fresh paint, orcan be used as is for a nice cruiser!
