As the newest Z-car, Nissan refocused the car with significantly better performance alongside luxury. The standard 3.0-liter V6, with 222 horsepower, was more powerful than the previous turbocharged powerplant — while the optional twin-turbocharged engine on the Z32 300ZX Turbo produced 300hp. The base model Z32 300ZX was mostly available in the T-top body style (removable roof panels) or as a semi-convertible (Targa style), commonly referred to as a convertible. However, a limited number were produced in coupe form as well (a/k/a 'slicktop'). Power was sent to the rear wheels via a 4-speed automatic transmission or a 5-speed manual. As with all other versions of the Z, the 300ZX was sold within the Japanese domestic market under the name Fairlady Z. The Z32 300ZX variants did not have a direct successor.
