This good-looking van comes standard with3 doors: a driver door, passenger door, and a sliding rear seatentrance door behind the passenger side door. The name "Vanagon" isa portmanteau of van and station wagon and was coined by Volkswagento highlight their claim that the vehicle had the room of a van,but drove like a station wagon. This Volkswagen Vanagon is alsocalled the Volkswagen Type 2 (T3) and it is the third generation ofthe Volkswagen Transporter that was manufactured by VW. Aninteresting and very useful feature of this Vanagon is that therear passenger and bench seats can be folded down and converted toa bed. This model of Vanagon features a water-cooled engine. Theinternal combustion engine of the Vanagon is located very low inthe back of the bus, under a carpet and an engine cover. Unlike theprevious model, this Vanagon features power steering, airconditioning, power door locks, electrically controlled mirrors,lighted vanity mirrors and a light above the glove box. This uniqueVanagon comes equipped with a 2.1L 4 cylinder "Wasserboxer" enginebacked by a 4 speed manual transmission. The "Wasserboxer" enginefeatured an aluminum case, aluminum cylinder heads and aluminumpistons with a forged steel crankshaft. This reliable engineproduces just under 100 horsepower, and was in use up until the endof Vanagon transportation into the US in 1991.
