1994 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Coupe The sporty Firebird was Pontiac's answer to the Ford Mustang andChevrolet Camaro. The car combined an available big V-8 withaggressive, attention-grabbing styling and delivered it in arelatively practical four-passenger package. Like it's pony-carcompetitors, the rear-wheel-drive Firebird offered tire-smokingpower and impressive acceleration. The F-body platform on which itand the Camaro were based, however, was arguably well past itsprime by the early 2000's. 2002 was the final year of productionfor Pontiac's iconic but dated speed machine. The Trans Am was thepumped-up, V-8-powered model. For consignment, a beautifully preserved Pontiac Trans AM from1994. Its comes to us with 79,652 title verified actual miles, isbathed in Quasar Blue, has snappy wheels, a 5.7 liter LT-1 mill, ablack leather interior, and all looking just fine. ExteriorNot like the days of yore with the screaming chickens, muscleengines, and 1980's lumbering styling. NOPE! This takes in aEuropean aero look with hidden headlights, a rounded front withbody matching neoprene bumper that slices through the air withefficiency. Trimmings are also body matching including a belt linebump out, and a rear spoiler that wraps around the rear greenhouseglass. Rounded inset tail lights are below the spoiler, and anotherneoprene body matching in Quasar Blue has cut outs on the bottom tohighlight the dual dual exhaust pipes peeking out from underneath.Tinted glass with black trimmings surrounds the passengercompartment giving plenty of viewing space from the raked backwindshield and expansive rear glass. Between the front and rearglass we see some smoked glass removable T top panels. 16-inch 5spoke wheels highlight the corners and are wrapped in 4th week of2000 production rubber. InteriorThe styling in euro design continues with the door panels which usemolded black plastic for the door pulls and armrests as well as thedoor actuator, storage tray on the bottom and a small but mightytweeter surround. Stepping across the thresh-hold we see some sexyhigh back buckets that have uber curvaceous designs with tuck androll inserts and some more tuck and roll on the side bolsters, anda sleek headrest on top. In back, the hump breaks up the 2+2 seatsin the same style as the front buckets and pristine black leather.A black undulating center console is between the buckets and housesa glovebox and shifter. As this rises to the center dash we seemore black panels with climate knobs and a killer AM/FM/CD with EQstereo system. A trio of round vents is on the padded dash top. Infront of the driver is a semi circular dash with semicircularblackface gauges and orange pointers. Charcoal gray carpetingfloods the floors and above the tinted glass panels. DrivetrainUnder the hood is a 5.7L LT-1 V8 which puts out 275hp. It can leavethe earlier versions of this car in the dust to say the least. Itis fed by EFI, and has a 4L60E 4-speed automatic tranny on back.The rear axle is a 10 bolt, 2.73 posi version and it makes the reartires smoke. UndercarriageLooking very factory, very clean, and very rust free with totalstructural unibody soundness. Independent coil springs in front anda torque arm with coil springs works the ride for the back. Powerdisc braking is on all 4 corners and a single exhaust with a Borladual outlet muffler is seen in good condition. Drive-AbilityA quick starter and effortless driver with some extra power whichwas unexpected. It handled like it was on rails and it ran andstopped great. A few frowns for the test drive in the AC blowingwarm, it pulled right when driving, the power mirror up and downcontrol is not working and the trunk signal stalk needs to be heldwhen you want it to stay on. The Trans Am takes on the Euro look, still with plenty of power andthis example is well kept and maintained with records.
