2002 Jaguar XKR Convertible With Less Than 64K Miles

Summary:
Used 2002 Jaguar XKR
Location:
Holly Springs, NC
Description:

The seller is this 2002 Jaguar XKR Convertible’s seventh owner, per the Carfax report. He says he bought it from an uncle in 2018 and has added about 10,000 miles since. The Carfax shows no reported accident damage, and the owner says he kept the Jag garaged when not in use. He reports a recent service to prep the car for sale, and the Carfax also indicates a very recent mass airflow sensor replacement. The seller says the XKR has a “cosmetically excellent exterior.” The generally good cabin shows a very worn driver’s seat and a few lesser blemishes, as detailed below. He reports that “everything works” on the car. The 1997 Jaguar XK8 revved up the automaker’s performance image with the brand’s first V8 engine and a design inspired by its classic E-type sports car. Jaguar then kicked it up several notches with the XKR in 2000. A supercharged V8 brought another 80 horsepower to the party, and the XKR came equipped with 18-inch wheels and Computer Active Technology Suspension, Jaguar’s name for adaptive variable-rate electronically controlled shock absorbers. (Jaguar cutely called it “CATS.”) The thing ran like a frightened kitty, with contemporary road tests recording 0-60 mph in 5 seconds and a 13.5-second quarter-mile at 106 mph. Jaguar dressed the XKR with a bright mesh front grille, functional cooling hood louvers, and a ducktail rear spoiler. POWERTRAIN The XKR’s 4.0-liter supercharged DOHC V8 was rated at 370 horsepower at 6,150 rpm and 387 lb-ft of peak torque at 3,600 rpm by the manufacturer when new. The owner says that the Jaguar’s engine is original and “starts right up.” He indicates no smoke, leaks, or weeps, and reports a new battery installed this year. The five-speed automatic transmission is said to shift as designed. EXTERIOR The car’s color appears to be Frost Blue, but this could be verified by the trim codes on the driver’s door jamb. The seller states that the XKR’s paint is original and in “excellent condition” with “no dents” and “a few very small paint chips.” The car presents well in the provided photos. The power convertible top is described as in “good condition with no leaks” and is affirmed to operate properly. The glass is in “good shape with no cracks,” and the seals “are fine with no leaks or cracks,” per the seller. The car has “no rust or rust repairs,” and all lighting functions as designed, he states. This car has the rear parking assist feature, as indicated by the sensors embedded in the rear bumper cover. INTERIOR According to the owner, the car’s carpet is in “good condition” with no holes. The driver’s seat beige leather upholstery appears to be coming apart. The center armrest also shows wear. The convertible top’s headliner is said to be in good condition with no sagging. The polished wood trim is intact, the seller says, and it appears to show well in the provided photos. There is a cell phone mount attached. Cracking can be seen around the J-Gate manual shift cowling on the center console. The seller says the center console cup holder spring is either “too tight or too loose” at various times. The seller reports that all interior features, including gauges, power-adjustable seats and headrests, cruise control, heat and A/C, power windows and locks, cruise control, and interior lights work properly. He reports no issues for the heated seats. The original Alpine brand AM/FM cassette stereo system includes a six-disc CD changer mounted in the trunk and is said to function as designed. CHASSIS The XK/XKR series used double-wishbone front suspension and the second-generation design of the Jaguar independent rear suspension, which used single spring/shock units per side. The seller affirms that the Jaguar’s suspension service was done about three years ago, and the bushings and shocks are in “good shape.” He reports no functional issues for the CATS electronic suspension damping. The 18-inch factory alloy wheels have “no pitting or vibrations,” he reports. Some minor scuffing along the tire bead area can be seen in photos. The power-assisted steering “tracks straight and has no play or leaks,” and the anti-lock four-wheel disc brakes are said to function properly. Per the seller, the Michelin tires are old and need to be replaced. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean North Carolina title in his name. He will include annual inspection receipts with the sale. The Jaguar XKR put the automaker’s performance legacy back in the spotlight and this 2002 Jaguar XKR Convertible shows low miles for its age. It is presented in very good condition overall, but with a new set of tires and some interior trim work needed.
