This 1968 Shelby GT350 Fastback is one of 224 Hertz Rent-A-Racer examples produced out of a total 1,053 1968 Shelby GT350 fastbacks, according to the car's Marti Report. The car was originally delivered to Robert H. Loud Ford in Pasadena, California, and to Hertz in March 1968. This Shelby is an original "black plate" car with air conditioning, Tilt Away steering wheel, power disc brakes, shoulder harnesses, and the sport deck rear seat. The Shelby was originally Red (code "T") but was resprayed dark gray later in its life. The dashboard has been signed by Carroll Shelby. This '68 Shelby GT350 received "a concours-quality rotisserie restoration on a very original car," according to selling dealer West Coast Classics, which describes the car as "one of the finest Shelby GT350's in existence." FEATURES The engine is a Ford 302-cu.in. OHV V8 rated at 250 horsepower.The fifth digit "J" in the VIN indicates the 302 V8.The engine is original to the car (as shown in the partial VIN stamp image) and has been rebuilt.The transmission, also said to be original, is a C4 automatic that was rebuilt during the restoration.The original 9-inch rear end carries conventional 3.50:1 gears.The original axle tag is present.The original Red paint was changed to Chrysler Dark Slate Metallic.The GT350H side stripes were done in a combination of gold and gray metallic paint.The car was reportedly stripped to bare metal and all original body panels were retained.The seller claims the car is "rust-free and accident-free."New glass and weatherstripping were installed during the restoration.The restored seats were recovered in black leather, according to the seller.The seat belts retain their factory tags.The trunk is original with its correct trunk mat.The wheels are reportedly the original Shelby 10-spoke wheels, as is the spare.
