The supercharged powertrain of the 2013-’14 Shelby GT500 was the foundation for some truly impressive performance and this 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has been modified to take that capability to an even higher level. In fact, notes the seller, it has broken into the 8-second quarter-mile range, driving through a six-speed automatic transmission, and has earned a reputation as a streetable race car known as Silverback. A series of videos on YouTube show its high-performance progression over the past few years, with work on the car and its drag strip times charted by the Texas-based shop Drowzy Performance. POWERTRAIN The original supercharged 5.8-liter OHV V8 engine was rebuilt about 2,500 miles ago with a focus on performance according to the seller. The internals were beefed up and the original-type supercharger was replaced with a VMP Performance blower that’s based on a Magnuson TVS 2.65-liter compressor. It draws its breath through a Kenne Bell throttle body, and the fuel system has also been upgraded. The engine is said to start and run well, with no smoke or operational issues, and is matched with a 6R80 six-speed automatic transmission that is said to shift smoothly. The only reported powertrain leak is a “slight” one from the engine’s oil pan. EXTERIOR The Ingot Silver paintwork on Silverback is said to be in good condition, with driving-induced nicks and scuffs on the front fascia, but no other noted blemishes. The exterior trim looks good, and the outside remains in stock-appearing condition, apart from a parachute. Its mount protrudes from the license plate area. The car has also had an upgraded to the factory glass roof option and it appears in very good shape, along with the rest of the glass. All are said to be in “excellent” shape, along with the seals, and the glass has been tinted. All the exterior lights are also said to work normally. INTERIOR The black leather cockpit, with the optional racing-style seats, is in stock-appearing condition and has only performance- and safety-minded modifications to suit the car’s track capability. They include a six-point roll bar, a parachute release, fire extinguisher mounted on the passenger’s side of the front floor, and an A-pillar-mounted auxiliary instrument readout. The upholstery, carpet, and other trim are said to be in great overall condition, with only mild apparent wear. All the factory gauges, the heater, the power locks, and the power windows are said to be in working order, but the air conditioning system has been deleted. The rear seat has also been deleted. CHASSIS The suspension has been upgraded for optimal drag-racing launches. The front and rear suspension have adjustable dampers, as well as other racing-related components. The front sway bar appears to have been removed and the brakes have been updated for racing, including the use of 15-inch rear wheels. There are Weld wheels all around, mounted with front-runner-style tires up front and Mickey Thompson ET Street drag radials in the rear. All are said to be in great condition. The rear tires appear to show 2021 DOT date codes, but the front tires’ date codes are not visible in the photos. DOCUMENTATION The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean Nebraska title in his name. Additional documentation for this 2014 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 include invoices for the extensive work performed on it. Known as Silverback, it’s a street/strip car that’s achieved 8-second status — and it appears ready to attack the strip again.
