1941 Packard 120 Convertible CoupeGENERALAn Art Deco masterpiecefrom every angle. Remarkable and correct two-tone Wilshire Brownand Andes Tan paint combination with a full complement of rareperiod options and accessories! Fitted with the rare and fullyfunctional electromagnetic clutch (Semi-Automatic). Sold new fromSanta Monica, CA before spending time in Arizona through 2002. Thethird owner had a body off restoration through 2005. The 1941 model19th Series Packard was introduced with an entirely new design thattruly pulled a modern appeal for buyers of the era. The formerbucket headlights were now incorporated into the fenders along withthe parking lamps, rounder fenders with upscale horizontalstainless trim accents front & rear, isolated running boards,simplified side engine trim that incorporated the hood release,opening rear window without the center divider, tail lamps moved tothe body, while the fuel tank finally found a gas door to hide thefiller.EXTERIOROverall exterior condition is 9.5/10 with excellentpaint finish (recently clay-barred and waxed)There are 2 smallpaint chips: lower front end and trunk lid edge, there is also asmall fine crack at the trailing edge of the top of the passengerdoor. All have been touched up.All the brightwork has either been'Triple Chrome-Plated' or buffed to a high luster. All shut linesare perfect as is the opening and closing of: Hood, Doors and Trunklid. The Convertible Top is a 10/10 its operation is smooth andcorrect with a single handle lock there is a slight gap at thepassenger side front roof and windshield 'A' pillar. Theconvertible top boot is in perfect condition,CHASSIS, BRAKES &SUSPENSIONThis 19th Series Packard was fitted with large 12"4-wheel hydraulic Drum Brakes (a 'New' Master Cylinder and a FullBrake Service were completed in May 2022) and a "Safe-T-Flex"suspension incorporating front independent Coil Springs withconventional Shock Absorbers and a Front Stabilizer Bar, the RearSuspension is a rigid axle supported by large 5 layer Leaf Springsalso utilizing Shock Absorbers. These features and the 127"wheelbase ensure a smooth capable ride at all speeds. Additionally,a newer 316 tig welded stainless steel 18-gallon fuel tank and newsending unit. The undercarriage is completely rust free anddetailed.INTERIORThe interior is equipped with an optionalcombination of Burgundy Leather and Beige Bedford Cloth. A fullcollection of Instrument Gauges including: 110mph LateralSpeedometer (Accurate to 5%), Ammeter, Fuel Gauge, Temperature(runs Dead Center on 85-degree Fahrenheit and 95% humid days) andOil Pressure (60 PSI Cold Idle) all function as they should. TheWaterfall Dash includes a 'working' AM Radio, with Cowl MountedAntenna and Concealed Speaker. The Glove Box includes a workingClock and remote light. The Driver's 'A' Pillar is equipped with aPeriod Correct Remote Spot-Light. Both 'A' Pillars also includeside mounted Rear-View Mirrors. There is a minor scuff on thesteering wheel where a Brody Knob was attached (now removed) Allcarpets (Including Trunk) and all upholstery are as new with noundue wear, wrinkles or sagging.The body, chassis and drivetrainwere positioned in such a way as to provide completely flat frontand rear floor compartments. The Red Clutch pedal denotes theoptional Electromagnetic Clutch Option.All the glass is in perfectcondition with no crazing, separation, scratches or chips. Allknobs, switches and handles are also in exemplary condition.Color-coded seatbelts have also been added. There is a concealedBattery cut-off switch added.DRIVETRAINPower comes by its original282ci Straight-8 L-Head engine. A full engine rebuild was completedas recently as July 2023 by world renowned and Pebble Beach AwardWinners 'RM Restorations', the rebuild included: Pistons and Rings,Oil Pump, Main, Rod and Cam Bearings, Valve Guides and CompleteEngine Reseal. Equipped with a downdraft carburetor and producing120 horsepower and 205 lb ft of torque. Power is transferredthrough a column shifted 3-speed manual transmission with fullyfunctional electromagnetic clutch & 'Econo-Drive' on top 2 gearsproviding overdrive gearing and comfort at higher speeds, with lessengine stress. A new Battery and Electric Fuel Pump were added inJuly 2023. A Water Pump Rebuild was completed in May 2022. Thevehicle starts well: Turn on the Ignition Switch, allow fuel pump 3seconds to prime the fuel bowl, depress pedal once (fully) to setchoke and fast idle, push starter button. The vehicle will start onthe 1st or 2nd turn and the fast idle will come off after 30seconds or on a single kick. There is no smoke from the exhaust andthere are no leaks from any drivetrain components. The Packard willpull strongly away in 1st Gear (if desired) I normally pull away in2nd as the low-end torque is more than sufficient. The Clutch andFlywheel were inspected during the Engine Overhaul and nothinguntoward was noted there is no shudder on acceleration.OPTIONS &ACCESSORIESOptions on this convertible include front & rear bumperguards, working Packard AM radio with cowl-mounted antenna, workingelectric dash clock, a grill guard with rare period Trippe drivinglights and original dash switch, working Guide spotlight, accessoryturn signals, Cormorant hood emblem, passenger visor-mounted vanitymirror, rear reverse light, dual outside mirrors, Packard De Luxeunder dash heater/defrost along with auxiliary dual stream underseat heater (for rear passengers), vacuum powered convertible top,steel rear wheel shields (skirts), rear quarter panel rock guards,full wheel discs with newer Dayton 235/75R15 radial wide whitewalltires, carpeted trunk, locking gas cap, Packard rubber floor mats.The rear taillights have been converted to LED for added daytimevisibility.It's show-ready appearance and capable drivabilitygarnered it a Class Award at the 2017 Canadian Concours D'Eleganceattesting to its superior current condition! This vehicle is readyfor touring (it would make a grand and capable Great RaceCandidate) or Concours show car.The current owner will assist indelivering the vehicle to the following US POE.
