Confirming the market dominance of stylish closed cars andespecially the clean pillarless hardtops that emerged during the1950s, Cadillac introduced its new Series 62 Sedan DeVillefour-door hardtop and the Eldorado Seville two-door hardtop onOctober 24, 1955, almost a month before the rest of its modelsdebuted for 1956.The Eldorado's already impressive mechanicalspecifications were refined for 1956, with Cadillac's proprietaryV-8 engine given its first displacement increase to 365 cubicinches. The Eldorado received a specially tuned version topped bydual Carter four-barrel carburetors underneath a stunning 'Batwing'air cleaner, rated at 305 horsepower. GM's famed Hydra-Maticfour-speed automatic transmission was standard and benefited fromimprovements developed at a cost of $35 million for smootheroperation. Amenities including power windows and a six-way powerfront seat were standard. Just 3,900 examples of the EldoradoSeville were manufactured for 1956, priced from a heady $6,501 theequivalent cost for two brand-new Corvettes or Thunderbirds!Thisrare and wonderful first-year example of the Cadillac EldoradoSeville is offered in outstanding condition throughout.
