1956 Pontiac Star Chief Catalina 2-Dr Hardtop1956 Pontiac StarChief Catalina. Beautiful older exterior restoration with nearflawless two stage paint and mostly original interior. Even if thecondition of the car matches the 14,188 on the odometer, previoustitles I've acquired indicate it's 114K. Highly factory optionedexample with PS, PB, PW, 6-way PS, P-ant, T&C deluxe radio withrear speakers, padded dash, W/S washer, remote side mirror,emergency brake warning light, glove box/courtesy lights,illuminated hood ornament, bumper guards/wings, stainless skirts,door handle guards, day/night mirror, dual exhaust, etc. Original317ci engine and dual range Hydramatic operate flawlessly, as doall windows, antenna, etc. Have researched history of ownershipback to 1980 but appears as a mostly rust-free northern latitudeexample which was restored in the 1990's by a previous owner whowas a professional body shop proprietor, according to his now alsodeceased son with whom I spoke. It still wore the original clearplastic seat covers through the 1980's-'90's according to aprevious owner, which explains the remarkable condition ofupholstery. There are a few interior items showing minor wear ordamage as evidenced in the photos which I feel only confirms theauthenticity and care of this car through the years. Carpeting wasreplaced and appears correct. We purchased the car from a privateowner several years ago on an emotional impulse, as it is exactlylike one my grandfather traded in on his new '66 Pontiac almost 60years ago. But it's basically been sitting in our garage as otherpriorities seem to be controlling my life, so we've decided to sellbefore the "sitting idle" gremlins set in. I suspect the owner'smanual and dealer showroom brochure are original to the car asevidenced by the "x" marks on the options page. We put on new BFGoodrich bias wide whites on last year and have driven it some.Could be the original spare or close to it! The previous ownerinstalled an electric auxiliary cooling fan for when they drove itin parades, but we've never experienced any cooling system issues.All chrome appears to have been beautifully replated with thefactory exhaust tip holes in the rear bumper still present but thetips themselves absent! I located a nice used pair that go with thecar and are temporarily mounted for appearance purposes. Allstainless has been polished and appears as new. The windshield wasreplaced but all other glass original. The dash pad looks like itdid the day it was installed. Further evidence of its pamperedlife. There is little to no evidence of past corrosion on this car,inside, outside, or underneath. If it's not the best existingexample of this model, it's darned close!
