While aerodynamicsplays a role in all modern vehicle engineering, this specialstreamlined street car was a revolutionary offering. This 1969Dodge Hemi Daytona is not only one of the 503 produced in a brieftime window between April and June 1969, but also one of theincredibly desirable 22 Hemi Daytona 4-speeds produced in thatgroup. It's additionally the most highly optioned Hemi Daytonaknown to exist. That alone sets it apart from many of its peers, even in this special group. The Charger Daytona was also unique inits production, converted from one of Dodge's premium Charger R/Treleases after its initial construction at the Hamtramck plant byDetroit-area subcontractor Creative Industries. Only two engineswere available: the 440 Magnum and the 426 CI Hemi V-8, which isdocumented here as the original engine to this car. The Hemi needslittle introduction, but it was truly significant in this bodydesign, as NASCAR legality was the Daytona's focus and only 40 Hemiexamples in total were built. The fact that this car also receivedthe A34 Super Track Pak is also significant, as that option meantthe A833 Hemi 4-speed manual transmission and a 4.10-geared Dana 609.75 Sure Grip rear end, as well as power front disc brakes, maximum cooling and the Hemi suspension components. The car is veryuniquely finished as well, done in its factory F8 Dark GreenMetallic with a black rear wing and a documented, matching,one-of-one C6G green vinyl bucket-seat interior. In addition to theC16 console with Hurst shifter and dash layout with the 150 MPHspeedometer and N85 Tic-Toc-Tach, this car came with G11 All-TintedGlass, the R22 AM/8-track radio and P31 Power Windows. Add to thisthe S81 wood-grain steering wheel, A01 Light Group, G33 remoteleft-hand mirror and C55 headrest bucket seats with the C62 six-wayadjustable driver's seat, and this was truly a deluxe example ofthe Charger Daytona. The final touches here are color-matchedstamped steel wheels with bright hubcaps bearing the Fratzog logoand 15-inch redline tires. This Daytona was likely custom-orderedby the originating dealer, Dodge City Inc. in Phoenix, Arizona, during the brief window the opportunity was offered. This stunningcar has been given a full restoration on the original sheet metaland is documented via a copy of its broadcast sheet and a ChryslerRegistry Report. The look remains unmistakable; it's apurpose-built spear designed to hammer the competition onto thewall. Under the tutelage of Bobby Isaac, the Charger Daytona didjust that in 1970, before the design was rendered uncompetitive byNASCAR rules writers. As a collector car, this 1969 Dodge HemiDaytona will present a very special opportunity for a new owner toadd their name to the Charger Daytona's notoriety. With one-of-onecolor optioning, the ultimate driveline pa
