When working for Pontiac, John DeLorean, Bill Collins, and Russ Geewere responsible for the GTO's creation. It involved transformingthe upcoming second-generation Pontiac Tempest into a sporty car, with a larger 389 cu in (6.4 L) Pontiac V8 engine from thefull-sized Pontiac Grand Prix hardtop coupe in place of thestandard 326 cu in (5.3 L) V8. By promoting the big-engine optionas a special high-performance model, they could appeal to the youthmarket which had also been recognized by Ford Motor Company's LeeIacocca. General Motors redesigned its A-body line for 1968, with morecurvaceous, semi-fastback styling, Pontiac abandoned the familiarvertically stacked headlights in favor of a horizontal layout, butmade hidden headlights available at extra cost. The concealedheadlights were a popular option. The signature hood scoop wasreplaced by dual scoops on either side of a prominent hood bulgeextending rearward, a unique feature was the body-color Endurafront bumper. The Pontiac GTO was now in the muscle car recordsbooks and muscle car history. A new model called "The Judge" was introduced. The name came from acomedy routine, "Here Come de Judge", used repeatedly on the Rowan& Martin's Laugh-In TV show. Advertisements used slogans like "Allrise for the Judge" and "The Judge can be bought". As originallyconceived, the Judge was to be a low-cost GTO, stripped of featuresto make it competitive with the Plymouth Road Runner. The packagewas more expensive than a standard GTO, and included the Ram Air400 engine, Rally II wheels without trim rings, Hurst shifter (witha unique T-shaped handle), wider tires, various decals, and a rearspoiler. This GTO Judge clone was found and purchased by Dr. M. Jove,Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Jove, a is well-known collector with anaffinity for collectible automobiles. His in-house restoration teamhas left no stone unturned during their restorations. Therefore, onoffer is a Pontiac GTO Judge clone that is exceptional in everyrespect.
