Description:

The 1972 Plymouth Road Runner GTX boasts a bold and aggressivelook. Its sleek, aerodynamic lines are accentuated by a distinctivefront grille and muscular stance which is further enhanced by widetires and colorful detailing, giving the car a true muscle carlook. You may not have heard of a Road Runner GTX, and you arelikely not alone in that. Anyone ordering a Road Runner with a 440in 1972 received the GTX emblems on the side of the fenders andrear trunk lid. As for rarity, only 672 were produced in 1972. This particular example has received a meticulous restorationthat's left it in stellar condition today. Ground up restored tostock standards and highlighted by a slick Tor-Red paint job, stylish interior, and 440 V8 big-block, this is certainly one ofthe cool Mopar! The color on this '72 is its factory original Code EV2, Tor-Red! Itlooks closer to orange than it does any shade of red, but it's ahigh-impact shade that is the perfect fit for this real Moparmuscle car. It's obvious that a lot of time and money went into thepaint and body, with a lot of prepping and high-end workmanshipresulting in a bright shade that's still in great form today. The all-new fuselage styling of the 2nd generation B-Body gave theRoad Runner a big leg-up on the competition and the swoopy designdefinitely looks the part of a Mopar muscle car. The wrap-aroundbumpers that circle the front end and taillights were a definingfeature, and painting them to match the bodywork gives this car amore modern and somehow more sinister look without erasing itsidentity. As you'd expect from a restoration of this caliber, allthe finishing touches have been looked after - the white decalslook razor sharp, clean rubber trim surrounds all the windows, andthe body lines are as precise as can be, allowing the doors, hoodand decklid to open and shut smoothly. Louvers over the back glassare a period-perfect touch and with its rear wing, big dual"machine gun" exhaust tips, and correct Road Runner, GTX, and 440badges, this Mopar is a beauty. The two-tone, cloth-and-vinyl upholstery on the seats inside thisRoad Runner GTX have been beautifully reupholstered back to anexcellent standard. High-backed bucket seats straddle a contrastingblack-and-woodgrain center console and beckon you to climb insideto assume the driver's position where, as you grab hold of thestock steering wheel, you'll see a woodgrain instrument clusterfull of clear factory gauges. A black dash pad runs across the top, there's a bit more woodgrain further down that helps warm thingsup, and between the plush black carpets on the floors, the brightwhite door panels at the flanks, and the taut white headlinerabove, everything in the cabin was attended to during the build. The rear seats look completely untouched and offer plenty of roomfor friends, while the trunk houses a full-size original spare tireand jack set. The beautifully detailed engine bay looks pretty much exactly likeit did when it left the factory, with Corporate Blue engine paintcovering the powerful 440 big-block V8. Nestled neatly in betweenthe Tor-Red inner fenders, the block is topped with a stock,dual-snorkel air-cleaner adorned with proper 440-Four Barrelstickers. With a Holley 4-barrel carburetor feeding it fuel andair, the engine's running great, with plenty of horsepower and ahealthy torque curve that helps it get-up-and-go in a flash. Athroaty dual exhaust system means this 440 sounds wonderful, and itpairs with a 3-speed automatic A727 Torqueflite transmission that'sshifting with slip-free precision today. One look underneath andanyone can instantly see why this Road Runner GTX needs mirrorswhen it's being shown, with painted floorpans and fresh componentseverywhere you look. Power front disc brakes help the car stop on adime, while power steering makes navigating this rare Plymouth abreeze as it cruises on a set of 15" original Plymouth wheelsoutfitted with period-perfect Goodyear G60-15 bias-ply tires.
