Mercedes made only 8,173 280SEL 4.5 V8âs in period from May of 1971 until November of 1972, and this beauty is one of them! Also, 4.5 V8 was only offered to the North American Market, making it particularly desirable in Europe! Add the highly desirable automatic floor shifter to the mix, and you have a something that lots of collectors and Mercedes-Benz Enthusiasts are looking for!Its Original Dark Red (#542G Dunkelrot) paint has a very nice presence, and it makes this German Luxury Sedan look very elegant and timeless! It still has a beautiful shine and luster, and just upon closer inspection you can notice some imperfections and blemishes in the paint (some paint cracking on top of the hood and front fenders â mainly because of engine heat and the fact that paint is original and over 47 years old!). We could have painted the front end, but that would take away from its originality, patina and its overall beauty and the fact that Cars are original only once!Chrome is very nice and complete, with nice and healthy luster and this beautiful sedan is a head turner and conversation piece everywhere it goes. This Mercedes is very solid, and its undercarriage is all original and unmolested! Body is also straight, and all doors, hood, and trunk are operating with ease, with everything lining up as it should. There is not a lot of 280SEL 4.5 V8âs out there in this solid, original and preserved condition! As Mercedes made only a little bit over 8,100 of 4.5 V8 SELâs, there is not a lot of them left period!
